Metal Injection Molding (MIM) technology is a product of the integration and intersection of multiple disciplines, including plastic molding technology, polymer chemistry, powder metallurgy technology, and metal materials science. It utilizes molds to injection mold preforms and, through sintering, rapidly manufactures high-density, high-precision, three-dimensionally complex structural parts. It can quickly and accurately transform design ideas into products with specific structures and functional characteristics, and can directly mass-produce parts, representing a new revolution in manufacturing technology.
Traditional CNC machining has recently improved its processing capabilities and efficiency due to widespread automation, showing significant advancements in precision control. However, its basic processing procedures remain unchanged, still relying on methods such as turning, planing, milling, and drilling to shape workpieces. While CNC machining excels in precision control, it suffers from low material utilization and limitations in achievable shapes due to equipment and tooling constraints; some parts cannot be produced by machining. In contrast, MIM effectively utilizes materials and is not subject to such limitations. For the manufacturing of small, high-difficulty, precision parts, MIM is more cost-effective and efficient than machining, possessing the potential to revolutionize traditional machining.
The materials used in Metal Injection Molding (MIM) are extremely diverse; in principle, any powder material that can be high-temperature sintered can be used to create parts via MIM. Furthermore, MIM allows for material formulation research tailored to customer requirements, enabling the creation of arbitrarily combined alloy materials and the molding of composite materials into parts. The applications of injection-molded products have spread across various sectors of the national economy, presenting vast market potential.
